Pau Cubarsí: Rising Star of FC Barcelona

During the distinguished history of our club, there have been many players who have left an indelible mark on the club and its fans. One of our most recognised values is giving opportunities to the young talents that develop their game in La Masia. Pau Cubarsí and Lamine Yamal are two perfect examples. We will focus our story on Cubarsí because he just extended his contract until 2027.

Who is Pau Cubarsí?

Born on January 22, 2007, in Estanyol, a small village in Girona, Spain, Cubarsí has emerged as one of the most promising talents in the club’s youth academy. He grew up in a very humble environment, with one big dream: become a Barça player.  He made his first team debut this season under the coaching of Xavi, who is also one of the best talents produced from La Masia.

Cubarsí’s first steps

Cubarsí started playing football in Girona’s academy. He started to stand out as one of the best talents for his age. When he was 11 years old, in 2018, he caught the attention of the scouts at FC Barcelona and joined the U11 team. Then, he started to play for all the teams in the youth academy until this year. He also shined in the national team, proving that the Barca players become one of the best in the world thanks to the trainers we have in La Masia and the Barça Academy’s all around the globe.

Cubarsí makes his debut with the first team

In July 2023 he signed his first professional contract with Barça, was included in the pre-season games and the rest is history. He debuted with the first team in the Spanish Cup game versus Unionistas de Salamanca on January 18, 2024. He was a huge part of the 1-3 victory, proving that his age (16 at that moment) wasn’t a problem. He showed an abnormal maturity on his first game with the club, so he was back in the starting line up just three days later. Against Real Betis Balompié, he made his LaLiga debut.

The milestones kept coming for the rising star. Versus SSC Napoli in the second leg of Champions League’s Round of 16, he won the Man Of The Match award with an outstanding game. By the way… that was his debut in the best competition in European soccer. Just amazing. In the first leg of the Quarter-finals against PSG, he also became the youngest defender in Champions League’s history to be in the starting line up, surpassing Georgiy Schennikov.

The future is bright

Pau Cubarsí is just 17 years old and has an exciting future ahead of him. He has the chance to be one of the best standouts and break all the records in our club. Cubarsí will be a role model for generations to come and is a perfect example of what you can achieve if you focus on one goal. He had a dream, and that was to become a Barça player. He trained harder and harder every day, and finally got the chance to play for our first team. Just another example that if you focus and work for one goal, you can reach it.
